Continue to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to nearly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas, where you’ll enjoy an unforgettable gorilla trekking adventure.

The safari concludes in Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda’s most popular wildlife destination, known for its incredible biodiversity, tree-climbing lions, elephants, buffaloes, hippos, crocodiles, over 600 bird species, and the spectacular Kazinga Channel boat cruise.

DETAILED ITINERARY

DAY BY DAY

Day 1: Transfer from Kampala or Entebbe to Lake Mburo National Park

Your safari begins with an early morning pick-up from your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe by your Rwanda Gorilla Trips professional safari guide. After a short briefing, depart for southwestern Uganda through beautiful countryside dotted with villages, farms, rolling hills, and lush green plantations.

Your first stop is at the famous Uganda Equator, where you can take memorable photographs, enjoy refreshments, and witness the fascinating water experiment demonstrating the Earth's hemispheres. Continue to Mpambire Drum Village, where local artisans craft traditional African drums and handmade souvenirs using skills passed down through generations.

After lunch, continue to Lake Mburo National Park, arriving in the afternoon for your first exciting game drive. Despite being Uganda's smallest savannah park, Lake Mburo is rich in wildlife and offers excellent opportunities to see zebras, Rothschild's giraffes, impalas, elands, topis, buffaloes, waterbucks, warthogs, bushbucks, and many bird species.

Spend the evening relaxing at your lodge while enjoying views of the surrounding wilderness.

Day 2: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast, continue your journey towards Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, one of Africa's oldest rainforests and one of the world's greatest wildlife destinations.

The drive takes you through the beautiful Kigezi Highlands, often referred to as the "Switzerland of Africa," with spectacular terraced hills, banana plantations, tea estates, local villages, and breathtaking mountain scenery.

Arrive in Bwindi during the afternoon and check in to your lodge. Spend the rest of the day relaxing while preparing for the following day's gorilla trekking adventure.

If time allows, you may take a short community walk to experience the local Bakiga culture and interact with the surrounding communities.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking Experience in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Today is the highlight of your Uganda safari.

After an early breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters for registration and a detailed briefing from Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers. You will be assigned a gorilla family based on your fitness level before entering the dense rainforest accompanied by experienced ranger guides and trackers.

The trek can take anywhere between 2 and 8 hours depending on the location of the gorilla family. As you hike through thick forest, bamboo vegetation, streams, and steep hillsides, your guides will share fascinating information about the forest ecosystem and wildlife.

Once the gorillas are located, you will spend one unforgettable hour observing them in their natural habitat. Watch the silverback protect his family, mothers care for their infants, and playful juveniles interact with one another. This close encounter with endangered mountain gorillas is widely regarded as one of Africa's greatest wildlife experiences.

Bwindi is also home to over 120 mammal species, more than 350 bird species, numerous butterflies, reptiles, and rare Albertine Rift endemic birds, making it a paradise for nature lovers.

Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park via Ishasha Sector

After breakfast, leave Bwindi and drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park through the famous Ishasha Sector, renowned worldwide for its rare tree-climbing lions.

Enjoy a game drive as you search for these remarkable lions resting high in giant fig trees. Along the way, keep an eye out for elephants, buffaloes, Uganda kobs, topis, hyenas, and numerous bird species that inhabit this remote wilderness.

Continue through the park's scenic landscapes to your lodge in the northern sector, arriving in the evening.

Relax and enjoy spectacular views of the park before dinner.

Day 5: Game Drive and Kazinga Channel Boat Cruise

Wake up early for a morning game drive across the Kasenyi Plains, one of the best wildlife viewing areas in Uganda.

This early morning safari offers excellent opportunities to spot lions hunting Uganda kobs, elephants, buffaloes, hyenas, waterbucks, bushbucks, warthogs, giant forest hogs, and many antelope species. Leopards are occasionally seen during the morning hours.

Return to the lodge for lunch before heading to the Kazinga Channel for one of Africa's finest wildlife boat cruises.

The Kazinga Channel connects Lake Edward and Lake George and attracts one of the highest concentrations of hippos in Africa. During the cruise, you may also encounter crocodiles, elephants, buffaloes cooling off along the shoreline, monitor lizards, and an incredible variety of water birds including African fish eagles, kingfishers, pelicans, saddle-billed storks, herons, and cormorants.

Return to your lodge for dinner.

Day 6: Return to Kampala or Entebbe

After breakfast, begin your journey back to Kampala or Entebbe, enjoying one final scenic drive through western Uganda's rolling hills, tea plantations, crater lakes, and rural communities.

Depending on your flight schedule, you may stop at local craft markets to purchase handmade souvenirs before continuing to Entebbe International Airport for your departure flight or your hotel in Kampala.
